Five years ago, on a summer’s afternoon in July 2018, Homer Scott made the five-minute drive from his home in Co Kildare to meet a journalist from The Irish Field at the Kilkea Castle hotel and golf resort. The venue was his idea. He’d taken the call the day before and had suggested lunch at the golf club, where he was a former captain and president.

That was a thing about Scott — he was never an also-ran, and was still making headlines at the age of 62. A month before, a story in the Racing Post asked: “Who is Rajj? The answer to the question on everyone’s lips.”
