Chelsea targeting major deal for PSG star who could become one of game's highest earners

WSL title holders Chelsea have made a major offer to sign PSG star Kadidiatou Diani in the summer.

The French forward, who played against the Blues twice in the UEFA Women's Champions League before Christmas, is one of the biggest names in Division 1 Féminine and is the league's top scorer this season. Diani, who has 80 caps for France, has hit 13 goals in just 13 games, helping PSG to second in the league just a point behind Lyon.

According to French news outlet RMC Sports, Chelsea have offered a three-year contract to Diani from this summer when her PSG deal is currently set to expire. The basic wage on the table would reportedly make the 27-year-old one of the highest paid players in the world from the women's game.

In total, Diani has 84 goals in 161 appearances for the side from the French capital and helped her current side to a domestic title back in 2021. Real Madrid and Washington Spirit are also interested in the striker, who is yet to agree an extension at PSG.

Chelsea were previously thought to be interested in bringing England and Man Utd forward Alessia Russo to Kingsmeadow. But it appears they have now switched attention to Diani, with London rivals Arsenal appearing to be in the driving seat for Russo's signature, having submitted a record transfer bid on Monday evening.

PSG's hopes of Diani signing an extension may have been helped by the French side qualifying for the last eight of the Champions League. However, if the forward does want a new challenge, Les Parisiennes won't be able to stand in her way.

It would be intriguing to see how Emma Hayes would potentially combine Diani with Chelsea's current first-choice forward Sam Kerr, who has scored six goals in just three games since coming back from the winter break. Diani wouldn't be moving to sit on the bench and would expect to play for the WSL holders.

Although Diani was unable to find the net in two group games against the Blues, she has scored three in total in the Champions League so far this season, including a crucial winning goal at home to Real Madrid which secured their progression to the quarter-finals. Chelsea were also rumoured to be in for Diani's Parisian teammate Grace Geyoro before she signed a contract extension to 2024.
