UK's 'first WAG' Suzi Walker on her desperation over £500,000 debt

A former Page 3 girl who claims she was Britain’s first WAG has been been forced to pawn thousands of pounds worth of jewellery after she ended up £500,000 in debt.

Suzi Walker, 52 - who was married to former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Ian Walker, 51, and was a partner of ex Crystal Palace boss Simon Jordan, 55 - suffered a chronic health condition and was faced with an expensive court case which left her having to sell off her treasures.

The model, who is now married businessman to Mark Pitman, told The Sun on Sunday: 'I pawned and sold everything I could just to keep going. Last year it was the engagement ring Mark gave me, which broke my heart, and some diamond earrings and a ring that were gifts from him.

'And I also pawned a diamond tennis bracelet worth thousands that Simon gave me.'

She said she accepted cash offers that were much lower then the true value of the items.

Suzi - who was the inspiration for the character Chardonnay in noughties ITV drama Fooballers' Wives - claims people expect her to be well off because of who she has previously been in relationships with but she wanted to be independent, insisting she never married anyone for money.

She left footballer Ian in 2007 after he slept with a lap dancer in Las Vegas.

Suzi said she was told her £950,000 house would be repossessed just last week because she owes a debt of £20,000.

She and her current husband Mark shelled out £600,000 in legal fees two years ago as he tried to get back millions which he said a company owed him in fees for work.

They won the case in 2021, according to Suzi, but they have still not received their money.

Suzi also spent £60,000 on healthcare after she discovered she was suffering from a chronic illness which had been left undiagnosed for years.

She said she was unable to get appointments locally so was forced to go private for help.

'I knew I was dying, but I couldn’t get a diagnosis from my local hospital. I paid to get private tests,' she explained.

Her face swelled up and she sustained bruises all over her body before she was diagnosed with ME, which she believes was incorrect.

She was told she was suffering mental health problems, with even her husband Mark believing her problems were not physical at one point.

But she was later diagnosed with a rare form of lyme disease called babesiosis after years of poor health.

The illness has led to Suzi suffering meningitis, brain inflammation and discharge behind her eyes.

Suzi said she racked up debt in unpaid mortgage payments to her lender over the course of a year but, after getting letters from her GP saying she is too ill to work, she has been allowed more time to get the money together.

In the 90s and 00s, Suzi was friends with fellow WAGs Coleen Rooney, Alex Gerrard and Victoria Beckham.

She described her life as a 'WAG fairytale', with her enjoying the 'finest of everything' while watching her husband compete with England in Euro 96.

Suzi said she and her pals would shop for lavish Gucci and Prada products, and would insist on drinking expensive Cristal champagne.

She recalled buying Cartier diamond-encrusted watches, which were worth 'thousands and thousands of pounds'.

Suzi and Ian got engaged in 1994 and they went on to have daughter Sophie, now 24, together.

However, she insists they weren't always rich, with Suzi buying her engagement ring for Ian from department store Allders for £20.

Life changed when Ian made the England squad, enabling Suzi to get weekly blow-dries, fake tans and multiple boob jobs.

She said they always travelled first class and she even had a personal shopper in Selfridges.

When their divorce was finalised in 2008, Suzi got about £800,000 which she put towards a house and school fees for her daughter.
