Martina Navratilova's wife of eight years Julia was exploring adoption… before cancer diagnosis

Martina Navratilova's wife Julia Lemigova shared hopes of adopting a child in a newly released trailer for the Real Housewives of Miami.

It comes just days after it was revealed that the tennis legend is battling both throat and breast cancer.

Former Miss USSR Lemigova, 50, opened up about her adoption dream while chatting to pal Alexia Echevarria in the mid-season teaser for show, which airs on Peacock TV.

'I've started calling the adoption agencies,' Lemigova tells Echevarria, who is clearly quite happy for the couple.

However, Lemigova adds, 'not so successfully,' though nothing more about the potential adoption was revealed in the trailer.

Navratilova and Lemigova celebrated their eighth wedding anniversary last month, but just weeks later, Navratilova revealed she's battling both Stage 1 throat and breast cancer.

'This double whammy is serious but still fixable,' the 66-year-old tennis legend said in a statement to the Women's Tennis Association.

'I’m hoping for a favorable outcome. It’s going to stink for a while, but I’ll fight with all have I got,' she added.

Navritalova had beaten cancer before, having been diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010, and getting the tumor surgically removed after a routine mammogram revealed she had a ductal carcinoma in situ.

The tennis icon's wife Lemigova, a former Russian model who was crowned Miss USSR in 1990, made history on this current season of Real Housewives of Miami as the first openly lesbian Housewife in the Bravo franchise.

Lemigova's co-star Guerdy Abraira revealed to Daily Mail Australia that she reached out to her co-star as soon as she heard the news about Navratilova's diagnosis.

'Things are happening on their end, I don't know the exact details, but I know that they feel very confident,' Abraira said.

'So it put me in a peaceful place where I know that hopefully everything will be okay,' she continued.

'And Martina texted and called me as well, I wanted to hear her voice and so forth. So I'm very happy for them that they actually are tackling it head-on and fast and furious, so it's looking good,' she added.

New episodes of Real Housewives of Miami debut every Thursday on the Peacock streaming service.
