Dylan Alcott is taking some much needed time off after a busy year of speaking engagements.
The Australian of the Year says that he is looking forward to long, lazy days at home with his sexologist girlfriend Chantelle Otten.
'I wouldn't say I'm relieved to pass it [Australian of the Year] on, but I'm relieved to see my bed a little bit more and see my girlfriend, see my dog and see my friends,' he told Nine Honey on Tuesday.
'You can hear my voice, it's a bit croakier than normal because all I've been doing is talking for a whole year,' he added with a laugh.
It comes after claims wedding bells are set to be ringing for Dylan and Chantelle, according to a new report.
Insiders say the couple is just weeks away from getting engaged, and that Dylan has even told his closest mates to 'save the date'.
'He's timed [his proposal] to perfection – he finishes up as Australian of the Year this week, and word is he may take Chantelle off to one of their favourite wineries or even do it courtside for the actual proposal,' a source told New Idea.
The Paralympic hero, 32, apparently wants to hold the wedding at Melbourne's Luna Park, a place he has loved since childhood.
'That's the sort of couple he and Chantelle are – full of fun and life and laughs. Those two squeeze every last bit of joy out of every day, so that's exactly what they want when they pledge their 'I dos'!' the insider said.
Chantelle, 31, has also hinted she is ready to tie the knot by following several Melbourne-based bridal designers on Instagram, including Lana Wilkinson, Jeanette Maree and Bridesmaids Dressing Room.
Chantelle and Dylan made their romance public at a tennis event in April 2019, and have been inseparable ever since.
'We've never seen Dylan this happy - as corny as it sounds, she completes him. They're devoted to each other at a level many couples would envy,' a friend of the pair previously told Woman's Day.
They added: 'Dylan doesn't do anything half-hearted, and he's a real romantic, so expect the wedding proposal to be epic!'
Another source said Chantelle, a divorced sex educator from Holland, had taught her boyfriend 'so much' about life since they met three years ago.
'She's his biggest fan and his greatest supporter,' they said. 'She has taught him so much about living a full life.'
The couple met in late 2018 at the launch of Dylan's book, Able: Gold Medals, Grand Slams and Smashing Glass Ceilings.
A newly separated Chantelle was a plus-one for a friend and was begrudgingly dragged along to the event, but the meeting ended up being love at first sight.
Since going public with Dylan, Chantelle has spoken at length about sex and disability, and says her sex life has never been better since meeting her partner.
