It was a sunny fourth day of Wimbledon on Thursday as Britain's Cameron Norrie set up an exciting third-round clash with Roger Federer.
Sportsmail reflects upon the moments you might have missed amid all the excitement....
LOVE’S LABOURS LOST TO TENNIS
Wimbledon's average viewing figures for the first three days are up almost 100 per cent on 2019, as Murray mania takes hold.
The Scot’s win against Oscar Otte was watched by a 4.3million average on the BBC, with a peak of 6.75m. Good numbers given the ITV2 reality show it was up against — it turns out Britons prefer love-40 to Love Island.
TENNYS CAUGHT SHORT
Alex Zverev beat Tennys Sandgren and also offered to give the American a pair of his shorts.
Twice a ball fell out of Sandgren’s pocket in the middle of a rally and, as per the rules, having played a let on the first occasion, when it happened again Mohammed Layani awarded the point to Zverev. ‘I’ve got some spare shorts if you want?’ joked Zverev.
ANDY SLAMS ‘PATHETIC’ NHS PAY
Andy Murray has aimed a volley at Boris Johnson and his ‘pathetic’ one per cent pay rise for some NHS staff.
Asked about Covid heroes in the Royal Box this week, Murray said: ‘Hopefully they can enjoy it and hopefully politicians can realise they deserve more than what they are getting paid. They got something like a one per cent pay rise? It was pathetic.’
IT’S HOTTING UP AT SW19
Thursday was Wimbledon’s first-ever Environment Day, in conjunction with the UN Climate Change Summit in Glasgow later this year.
The Royal Box was full of eco warriors, led by adventurer Bear Grylls and 19-year-old ornithologist Dr Mya-Rose ‘Birdgirl’ Craig.
A projected forecast was made for Wimbledon 2059 — with highs of 40?C!
RUSSIANS SET TO BE BIG IN JAPAN
The squads were confirmed for the Olympic tennis on Thursday, with Team GB led by Andy Murray, Dan Evans, Jo Konta and Heather Watson.
Many nations have been decimated by withdrawals, and on paper it looks like Russia (sorry, I mean the Russian Olympic Committee) have the most strength in depth on the men’s side, with Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev, Aslan Karatsev and Karen Khachanov.
BERRETTINI’S IDOL CHAT
Matteo Berrettini is on track to face his hero Roger Federer in the last eight and, when asked for his Wimbledon memories, the Italian said: ‘Roger against Andy Roddick, 16-14 in the fifth in the 2009 final.
'I was in a tennis camp, we were all watching. People were getting tired.
'My eyes couldn’t go, I wanted to follow every point. It was a great memory because I was cheering for him. I don’t know if he knows that.’
