High school roundup: Trevor Mullin becomes all-time leading scorer at St. Sebastian’s

Trevor Mullin scored 32 points to become the school’s all-time leading boys basketball scorer with 1,771 points as St. Sebastian’s (15-0) rolled to a 72-31 win over Noble and Greenough in the Independent School League. Mullin broke John Bean’s record, which stood for 38 years.

“Trevor has been the heart and soul of St. Sebastian’s basketball for the past five years,” said St. Sebastian’s coach Dave Hinman. “It has been so rewarding to see his hard work pay off and the entire community could not be happier for him.”

Jayden Williams and Owen Haglund combined to score 40 points as Arlington (8-5) defeated Worcester South 51-36 in a nonleague tilt. … Ederick Gonzalez turned in a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Giovanni Jean finished with 18 points, five rebounds and five steals as Lynn Tech (10-2) routed Pioneer Charter, 87-45. … Michael Moriarty knocked down 29 points for Rockland in a 61-43 win over Calvary Chapel.

In Independent Girls Conference Action, Liza Minogue dropped 17 points, while Abby Chewning chipped in with 14 points for Covenant Christian in a 44-21 win over Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall.

Luke O’Sullivan and Nolan Hurley each lit the lamp to propel BC High (5-6-1) over Malden Catholic 2-0 in Catholic Conference action.

Justin Thibert helped Shawsheen pull away in the third period, scoring twice in a 5-1 Commonwealth Athletic Conference win over Lowell Catholic. … Nick Tatarzuk finished off two goals and an assist, combining with freshman Alex Frost’s four points (three assists) to pace Bedford past Lowell 5-1 in MVC/DCL play.

Behind a hat trick from Jack Curran and 26 saves in net from Dylan Michelow, Needham (6-5-1) overcame a tough Framingham team for a 4-1 Bay State Conference win.

Maggie Murphy broke her school records on the beam (9.8) and all around (38.4) for Westford Academy in a 137.3-133.1 Dual County League victory over Acton-Boxboro.

Sadie Taylor buried the game-winner in overtime for Belmont (7-3-1), pairing with Mackenzie Clarke’s goal to power a 2-1 comeback win over Wakefield in Middlesex League play.

Dom Gangi improved to 34-0 on the season as Methuen remained undefeated on the season with a 53-24 win over Haverhill in the Merrimack Valley Conference.

St. John’s (Shrewsbury) named John Vassar as its new head football coach, replacing John Andreoli, who retired following the 2022 season. The 29-year-old Vassar played his high school football at St. John’s before graduating and attended Wesleyan, where he played running back and linebacker from 2012-15.

“Making connections, building community and youth development is a passion of mine,” Vassar said. “The Saint John’s community is a major piece of the foundation that made me who I am today. It’s an honor to be able to bring it all home and give it back to our young men. It takes a village to raise a child. I look forward to doing my part in strengthening and growing our village both on and off the football field.”
