'America's most expensive winter home' hits Aspen market at $100M

A unique home slap bang in one of America's most exclusive ski resorts has slid on to the market for a cool $100 million.

The sprawling 10-bedroom property is located just a five-minute walk from the famed Little Nell ski resort beloved by a spread of celebrities including Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, Gigi Hadid, Elle Macpherson and Elton John.

According to the listing agent, Steven Shane of Compass, if it sells it will set a new record for properties in the affluent area.

The three-story home at 730 S Galena Street hit the market in June but as of yet, no buyers have come forward. Its current owner is Detroit-based philanthropist and manufacturing entrepreneur Joel Tauber, who purchased it in 1996 for just over $9 million.

Prior to Tauber, the home was owned by American media mogul and department store heir Ted Field.

While it was built in 1979, records show the house was renovated in 2015 to bring it up to date.

Photos of the 14,000-square-foot pad reveal its glossy interiors, which merge traditional ski and contemporary design.

Many of the rooms feature exposed stone walls and dark wood detailing, with minimalist furnishings finishing things off.

The property is offered fully furnished - including contemporary artworks and a large statue which stands outside.

It has plenty of space for entertaining and makes for a top place to relax after a long day on the slopes.

In terms of spaces, the main lobby area makes for a particularly grand entranceway. It is located on the second floor and is accessible via an elevator and short stone-paved bridge.

Once inside the property, the lobby gives an impression of grandeur with polished marble floors, wood-paneled walls, double-height ceilings, and an eye-catching contemporary light installation taking center stage.

Another impressive space is the open-plan lounge and dining area, with floor-to-ceiling windows and skylights offering superb views of the mountainous surroundings.

Meanwhile, the master bedroom has equally Instagrammable vistas, with the bed facing a window the size of small movie screen.

In terms of amenities, some of the home's highlights include two kitchens, a games room, a ski room with lockers and a fully-equipped gym.

Moving outside, the property sits on a 1.4-acre plot and features about 5,000 square feet of deck and patio space.

Letting agent Shane told DailyMail.com that the real highlight of the home is that it 'provides the best ski access on Aspen Mountain.'

It sits only a few hundred yards from the Aspen Mountain Gondola with true ski-in, ski-out access.

On the property market front, Shane says Aspen has managed to remain sheltered from poor economic winds thanks to an extreme lack of inventory.

The current record in terms of sales price in the area was set in June 2021, when hockey player-turned-entrepreneur Patrick Dovigi paid $72.5 million for an 11-bedroom mansion overlooking downtown Aspen.

Meanwhile, fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger flipped his ski-in, ski-out Aspen home for $50 million in March 2022, just three months after purchasing it for $30.945 million.
