Woman is charged with murder following death of father-of-two who was stabbed after Christmas

A hairdresser has been charged with the murder of her husband after he was stabbed at his village home just three days after Christmas.

Teresa Hanson, 53, of West Cowick, near Snaith, East Yorkshire, has been remanded into custody to appear at Hull Magistrates Court today following the death of father-of-two, Paul Hanson.

Police were called to the £250,000 property on Little London Lane on December 28 following reports that the 54-year-old had sustained a stab wound.

Although Mr Hanson was taken to hospital, he was pronounced dead shortly after.

Police then confirmed that a woman, aged 53, was arrested on suspicion of murder and remained in police custody whilst enquiries continued.

Mr Hanson worked as a site manager at Sword Construction UK and his works van could be seen parked in the driveway of the scene at Little London Lane in the village of West Cowick.

In July, Mrs Hanson posted a social media tribute to her husband, writing alongside a smiling picture of them together: 'Happy Anniversary to this man 34years today wow, not sure we're that's gone had a few challenges along the way ( think you have 9 life's ) but got though them together x 2 kids and 3 gorgeous grandchildren love you loads.'

Meanwhile, Daughter Sherri Hanson visited the house over Christmas and posted joyous pictures and comments about her son opening his presents with his grandfather.

Forensic teams visited the scene of the semi-detached, cream rendered house on December 29.

Humberside Police said there was no wider risk to members of the public, but officers would remain in the area over the coming days.

A spokesperson said: 'A man who sustained a fatal stab wound at a property in West Cowick on Wednesday 28 December has been named by his family as Paul Hanson, aged 54.

'We were called to reports of an injured man at a property on Little London Way, West Cowick in Snaith at 7.15pm.

'Paul Hanson, aged 54 was taken to hospital to receive medical treatment, but sadly he died shortly afterwards.

'Paul's family continue to be supported by specialist trained officers and have asked for privacy at this time.'

Previously, Detective Chief Inspector Nicola Burnett added: 'We understand that news of a tragic incident such as this will cause shock and concern to people in the village and surrounding areas.

'However, I wish to reassure people that this was an isolated incident between people who were known to each other and, as such, there is no wider risk to members of the public.

'Officers will remain in West Cowick over the coming days whilst we continue with our investigation, and a scene guard will remain in place.'
