Sydneysiders grow 'complacent' as QR codes check-ins drop by 20% after NSW records new Covid-19 case

Stark warnings have been issued over Sydneysiders' complacency over checking in with QR codes at restaurants and cinemas after the state recorded one new case overnight.

Figures show a 20 per cent drop in hospitality check-ins over New South Wales.

New data reveals that 48 million people checked in to venues in April, compared to 66 million in January.

Customer Service Minister Victor Dominello on Thursday said residents had become 'complacent' with the ongoing pandemic.

'We've taken it for granted that we live in this great island nation, and … we think that we're immune, but clearly we're not,' Mr Dominello told 2GB.

'I think people assume that if we're safe, we're safe forever but you only have to look around the world to realise that the virus is still raging.'

The data comes after an infected man in his 50s from the eastern suburbs tested positive for the virus on Wednesday, marking the first case in NSW since April 1.

He also visited a number of venues while potentially infectious but had been 'meticulous' about checking in using QR codes.

A list of venues of concern has been compiled which includes a number of barbecue stores in Silverwater, Annandale and Casula, a meat store in Bondi Junction and an Event Cinema in Bondi Junction.

Mr Dominello said Sydneysiders have 'slacked off' after contract tracing revealed only 100 people checked-in to the cinema complex - with more cases expected to emerge in the coming days.

'It's up to the venue, its up to the people to do the right thing and it takes literally seconds to swipe your phone to keep yourself safe, your family safe and your community safe,' he said.

The Customer Service Minister reminded high risk venues such as hospitality, pubs, cinemas and other enclosed venues that it's a legal obligation to enforce QR codes alongside their Covid Safe Plans.

'It's not a big ask to do the right thing to keep us all in a safe place,' Mr Dominello said.

Anyone who attended one of the following venues at the times specified is asked to immediately get tested and isolate until NSW Health provides further information.
