Nia Long opened up about her missed 'opportunity' in the 2000 film, Charlie's Angels, and revealed to Yahoo Entertainment she wasn't cast in the feature because she looked 'too old next to Drew Barrymore.'
The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air actress, 52, had originally auditioned for the role of Alex Munday, however, Lucy Liu was eventually offered to play the character.
The mother of two, who recently opened up about her friendship with Will Smith, admitted that at that time, she wasn't 'quite ready for' the role, and explained, 'every opportunity isn't for you.'
When talking about a rumor that she had 'passed' on the Charlie's Angels role, Nia set the record straight by stating, 'That is the biggest fattest lie.'
The Best Man actress further explained that, 'Charlie's Angels did not want me because they said I looked too sophisticated and too old next to Drew Barrymore.'
Although she wasn't cast in one of the leading roles in the action film, Nia expressed that she was a fan of the film and Lucy's portrayal of Alex.
'I thought Lucy Liu was great in that role. When I went back and looked at it, I was like, 'Whoa, she's really doing some stunts,' the star informed the publication.
The New York-born star admitted that upon looking back, 'I don't know if I was quite ready for that.' She added a positive outlook on the situation and stated, 'you can't do everything, and every opportunity isn't for you.'
Charlie's Angels starred Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu as private detectives based in Los Angeles. The film was a continuation of a series of the same name that premiered in 1976.
Bill Murray tackled the role of John Bosley, while the voice over of Charlie was played by John Forsythe, who was also the voice in the original series which aired for five seasons.
The film was a box office success at the time, and garnered a total of $264 million on a budget of $93 million.
Although she was not cast in the action film series, Nia was soon offered the role of Sherry Pierce in the hit 2000 comedic film, Big Momma's House.
'I think Big Momma's House was probably more fun for me. And working with Martin Lawrence, another genius comedian who I have so much respect for,' she told Yahoo Entertainment.
During the interview, Nia reminisced on her time on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and opened up about her close friendship with her co-star, Will Smith.
Throughout her time on the show, the actress had been cast twice, the first time portraying the character of Claudia in 1991, and then later, Will's onscreen girlfriend, Lisa.
'It was my first consistent job where I was actually working every day and learning what it meant to be on a show with three cameras versus film where there's one camera,' she recalled.
When talking about working alongside Smith, Nia expressed that he, 'was this energetic, goofy, funny guy that was obsessed with playing golf and sneakers. And he was just the happiest person.'
'And he's had an incredible career and he's carried a burden for many years to try to represent what perfection looks like or achievement looks like,' she explained, adding, 'I think he's now able to be human and I'm just thankful and grateful for that moment in my career because it taught me a lot about comedy.'
The star briefly discussed her recent split from former NBA player and Boston Celtics head coach, Ime Udoka, which was confirmed last month in December following his alleged infidelity with a female franchise staff member that caused his suspension, reported Page Six.
'I've had some pretty devastating moments in my life over the last couple of months and I've had to just say, 'It's all right. You'll pick yourself back up…'
The actress became emotional during the interview and stated, 'Oh my God, I'm about to cry. You pick yourself back up and you keep it moving.'
The two had dated for 13 years and share 11-year-old son, Kez Udoka. Nia also shares 22-year old son, Massai Dorsey II with her ex, Massai Dorsey.
After the break up, she has continued to focus on her children, along with taking on numerous projects. She recently starred alongside Eddie Murphy and Jonah Hill in Netflix's You People.
Nia also can be seen in the thriller, Missing, with Euphoria's Storm Reid, which premiered in theaters earlier on January 20, and is a sequel to the 2018 film, Searching.
