Neighbours star Scott McGregor to fight allegations of sexual assault in Melbourne

An ex-Neighbours star will fight allegations he sexually assaulted a woman after a night out at one of Melbourne's most famous seaside pubs.

Scott McGregor, who played police detective Mark Brennan on the iconic Aussie soap, found himself on the wrong side of the law in November when detectives charged him with one count of 'sexually touching' a woman without her consent.

On Thursday, McGregor's lawyer, Thomas Isaacs, fronted the Melbourne Magistrates' Court via videolink on his behalf to declare the charges would be contested.

'Mr McGregor adamantly denies the charges,' Mr Isaacs said.

The charge relates to an alleged incident at St Kilda's Hotel Esplanade, known by locals as the 'Espy', at about 8pm on Sunday, February 20 last year.

McGregor, who has also featured Underbelly, Offspring and Winners & Losers, appeared in 940 episodes of Neighbours from 2013 to 2020.

Mr Isaacs agreed with a Crown prosecution proposal to adjourn the matter for the next four months while he obtained access to a swag of material from investigators.

'This investigation is perhaps still ongoing when one has consideration to the additional disclosure sought,' he said.

Mr Isaacs argued against the release of a police summary of the allegations - a request that was granted by the magistrate.

The matter will not return to court again until May where the charges will be hotly contested.

Unlike Thursday's hearing, which was the first mention of the matter, McGregor will be required to front a media pack when it returns to court.

In 2019, McGregor was the victim of a glassing incident after exotic dancer Danielle 'Ivy' Lee picked up a glass 'in a fit of rage' and threw it at his face.

The actor was at the Hollywood Showgirls Club on Queensland's Gold Coast when the glass hit his face and caused a small cut that required three stitches.

Lee pleaded not guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm and told the court McGregor verbally abused her after she approached him in the club.

The dancer's reaction was found to be 'disproportionate' to the offence and found her guilty before releasing her on a $1,000 good behaviour bond.

No conviction was recorded and she was ordered to pay $80 for medical costs.

Fans were devastated after McGregor didn't appear in the final episode of the show in July, which saw the return of dozens of ex-characters return to Ramsay Street.

The actor and model lives in the leafy Melbourne suburb Brighton East and shares two children with his wife of three years Bianka Voigt.

McGregor regularly uploads photos to Instagram of his enviable lifestyle, including trips to the beach with his young family, golf days and home renovations.
