A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after two cyclist were killed in a horror crash.
Emergency services rushed to the scene in Cudworth, Barnsley at 9:07pm on Friday evening to reports of a collision between a car and two bikes.
The two cyclists were immediately pronounced dead at the scene, with police working to formally identify them.
The driver of the car believed to have been involved in the crash failed to stop at the scene, with the vehicle being found abandoned more than five miles away in Shafton.
The car involved, believed to be a red Volkswagen Golf, was later found abandoned in Bleak Avenue, Shafton.
A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Officers from South Yorkshire Police are working to trace another man in connection with the incident.
A spokesperson for the force said: 'We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or who was driving in the area at the time and may have seen the Volkswagen Golf or cyclists to get in touch.
'We are particularly keen to hear from those with dashcam footage.'
