LIV Golf team championship 'will move from Donald Trump's Miami resort to Saudi Arabia'

LIV Golf's team championship final is reportedly moving from Miami to the Middle East as the Saudi-backed breakaway tour prepares to announce its 2023 schedule.

Last year's team championship, whereby four teams of as many players battle it out in twosomes for a $50million prize pot, took place at Donald Trump's National Doral golf resort in Miami, but the 2023 event will be held in Saudi.

According to ESPN, LIV Golf are moving the showpiece to the Royal Greens Golf & Country Club in Jeddah on November 3-5 as part of a schedule which will soon be confirmed by the tournament.

Trump was in attendance at the 2022 team championship, posing for photos alongside LIV chief Greg Norman and many others, and three of the former US President's golf courses will still be used by LIV Golf this year.

His National Golf Club outside Washington will host an event from May 26-28, while another in Bedminster, New Jersey is scheduled to be used from August 11-13. The National Doral in Miami is also down for October 20-22.

LIV Golf, which is funded by Saudi's Public Investment Fund, have revealed their players will be competing for $405million across 14 tournaments over the course of the season, which is $150million more than they collected for eight tournaments last year.

The tour's full 2023 schedule includes a return to Centurion Club, the scene of its inaugural event last June, outside London from July 7-9, as well as Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois from September 22-24.

It will also be holding a new event at Orange County National in Orlando, Florida from March 31-April 2, one week before the Masters, the first major championship of the season, gets underway.

However, this year's circuit will not include events in Portland, Oregon, and Boston like it did in 2022.

LIV Golf have previously announced their 2023 schedule will begin at El Camaleon Golf Club in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico from February 24-26, while also confirming tournaments in Tucson, Arizona (March 17-19), Australia (April 21-23), Singapore (April 28-30), Oklahoma (May 12-14), Spain (June 30-July 2) and West Virginia (August 4-6).

America's Dustin Johnson was crowned individual champion last year after finishing with a score of 135, while his 4 Aces GC team - also consisting of Talor Gooch, Pat Perez and Patrick Reed - claimed the collective prize.

LIV Golf has drawn widespread controversy since its inception, most notably from the likes of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.

Norman, who serves as the tour's chief executive, reignited his war of words with Woods this week by branding the claiming the 15-time major winner a 'mouthpiece' for the PGA.
