Former Chelsea captain John Terry was keen to remind Piers Morgan that Arsenal have gone nearly two decades without a Premier League title - before being told he will never be 'Invincible'.
The pair traded blows on social media, which began with Morgan revelling in Arsenal's league position. The Gunners have enjoyed a sensational first-half of the campaign, establishing a five-point lead at the top of the Premier League table, with a game in hand on some of their rivals.
Chelsea meanwhile have endured contrasting results, languishing in mid-table having changed their manager following the arrival of new owners. Todd Boehly has been keen to push the club's new-found American wealth following last year's takeover, spending over £500m since arriving in west London, albeit without the results to show for their largesse on the pitch.
They captured Enzo Fernandez in the final throes of deadline day for a British-record fee, but Morgan swiftly chose to highlight the current gulf between the two sides.
He said on Twitter: "Reminder to Chelsea fans: weâre top of the League, youâre 10th, and weâre 21pts ahead of you with a game in hand. So spend all the gazillions you want but what you REALLY need to buy is a telescope to look up at Arsenal."
The north Londoners have endured a lengthy period where they've struggled to challenge for the title, whilst also failing to make the top four since Arsene Wenger's departure. Chelsea meanwhile, especially during Terry's playing days, have picked up silverware consistently over the past two years, winning five Premier League titles since the Gunners' last triumph.
Chelsea's former captain replied to Morgan: "You have gone missing for 20 years ! And you still have a long way to goâ¦I have won more trophies since I retired playing golf than Arsenal have."

Terry ended his playing career with all five of those Premier League medals in his pocket. His first came in 2005 under Jose Mourinho - 12 months after the Gunners went through the entire season undefeated to earn themselves the 'Invincibles' tag.
Terry's best effort is a single defeat across 38 games during Mourinho's tenure, leaving Morgan to get a sly dig in. He quipped: "Pipe down âTigerâ Terry⦠it was only 18 years ago that Arsenal went unbeaten in a whole League season (incl stuffing Chelsea, led by you, home & awayâ¦). So the only thing thatâs âmissingâ is the word 'Invincibleâ on your CVâ¦."
Arsenal, should they win the league this term, will not do so undefeated having already lost this season, albeit only once. They suffered a 3-1 reverse at Manchester United back in September - one of only three games they've not won in the league so far. Chelsea have already been defeated this term by Mikel Arteta's side, courtesy of a Gabriel goal in west London.
