Hugh Laurie has begun work as director and executive producer of the BritBox adaptation of 1934 Agatha Christie novel Why Didn't They Ask Evans?
The star, 62, was spotted on location at Three Cliffs Bay in the Gower Peninsula, Wales, on Saturday as he directed cast members Will Poulter, 28, who will play the title role of Bobby Jones, and Conleth Hill, 56, who portrays Dr. Alwyn Thomas.
Film and television star Hugh wore a blue jumper which he whipped off to show a short-sleeved claret shirt as the weather warmed up.
He could be seen instructing the cast as they stood in costume on the sandy beach, with the House star looking confident as he got into the swing of the shoot.
Hugh walked around the beach and spoke with both of the actors, appearing to give them notes, while working on the scene.
Will and Conleth both donned dapper costumes inspired by the 1930s as they got into their characters in the murder-mystery tale.
The upcoming TV mini-series' two stars looked hard at work during the day and were surrounded by crew in high visibility jackets.
It emerged Hugh had signed up to write, direct and executive produce an adaptation of Agatha Christie's Why Didn't They Ask Evans? for BritBox in America in April.
The project is the streaming service's biggest commission to date, according to Deadline.
The series will feature three parts and will follow the story of the book which was first published in 1934.
It tells the tale of Bobby Jones and his socialite friend Lady Frances Derwent who discover the body of a man while playing golf.
The pair then take it upon themselves to solve the mystery and find the killer.
Hugh said of the literary work in a statement: 'The hairs on the back of my neck haven’t properly settled down from the first time I grasped the beauty of the essential mystery.
'Since then, I have fallen deeper and deeper in love with the characters, and feel immensely honoured to have been given the chance to retell their story in this form.
'I will wear a tie on set, and give it everything I have.'
Earlier this month it was announced The Revenant star Will Poulter and Bohemian Rhapsody's Lucy Boynton, 27, had been cast in the title roles as Bobby Jones and Lady Frances Derwent.
Will said in a statement: 'I’m deeply honored to have been given the opportunity to co-lead this project with Lucy and the chance to bring Agatha Christie’s thrilling story to life under Hugh’s direction.'
Lucy added: 'I’m so thrilled to be working with Hugh and Will, and on this story from one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to get started.'
Why Didn't They Ask Evans? is set for release in 2022.
