1920s New Jersey home of the Macy's heir's hits the market for $1.5 million

A New Jersey mansion built in the 1920s for Macy's heir Herbert Straus is set to hit the market for a whopping $1.57 million.

The home, which is located in Middletown, was custom-made for the son of Macy's co-owner and U.S. Congressman Isidor Straus, who perished on the Titanic with his wife, Ida - who refused a seat in a lifeboat to remain at her husband's side while the ship was sinking.

The estate - which was converted from a dairy farm that originally consisted of 143 acres - boasts five private residences, however it is the main unit that has now gone up for sale for the first time in 50 years.

Known as Cobble Close Farm, the property sits on 13 acres and features a stunning French Norman aesthetic that was brought to life with materials transported from Europe.

According to a press release this is the first time since 1953 that the main house of Cobble Close Farm is being brought to market.

Sprawling over 4,950 square feet, this three-bedroom, three-bathroom unit of the property that is so unique it's only around to purchase every 70 years, boasts sweeping views of gorgeous farmland.

Between the fountains, gardens, Greco-Roman statues, lawns, and the pool and orangery that border the property, residents will want to stay outside through every season.

The luxurious main home of Cobble Close Farm also features a solarium, a parlor, and a magnificent dining room.

Adjacent to the unit is also a three-bedroom apartment.

The property boasts three bedrooms that are all decorated in a cozy cottage style and bring comfort to a new level.

It comes complete with cozy stone fireplaces, two garages, a basement, and three private gardens.

The chef's kitchen features tons of storage space and is covered in stunning wood finishes, which make it that much more elegant.

The living room gives you a perfect view of the cobblestone courtyard.

Sitting on one side of the property is the Navesink Country Club, and on the other side of the estate are horse stables and pastures perfect for trail riding.

A golf course and popular beaches are also nearby - making it the perfect area to live.

'13 total acres on the property ensure plenty of room for walks and appreciation of all the beauty the countryside has to offer,' the listing reads.

According to the listing, the property is so 'unique' that it has been the perfect spot for 'fashion, film and television shoots.

'I am so excited to bring such a unique piece of history to the market,' listing agent Katherine Raftery at Resources Real Estate said in a statement.

'This is truly a rare opportunity – the setting and architecture are something that must be seen to fully appreciate,' she continued.
