Trevor Lawrence: 'I'll Do Everything in My Power' to Get Jaguars to Right Place

Let the Trevor Lawrence era begin for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

After the AFC South team took the Clemson quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick in Thursday's NFL draft, he told reporters, "we're so excited to get down there. Thank you guys so much. This is going to be a really fun year."

He also said, "I'll do everything in my power to get us back to where we want to be" when talking about a Jaguars team that went 1-15 last season.

Lawrence also addressed whether he expects to be the starter in Week 1:

Turning around the Jaguars will be no easy task, but college football fans are surely familiar with the two primary pieces in place who will try to do just that.

Lawrence joined Jacksonville during the same offseason it hired Urban Meyer as its head coach. Meyer is one of the best college football coaches in the sport's history but has never led a team at the NFL level.

Having the Clemson product figures to make his life easier, as Lawrence won a national championship and reached two more College Football Playoffs in three years as a college starter. He has long been assumed to be the No. 1 pick well before Thursday arrived and for good reason.

The 2020 Heisman Trophy runner-up threw for 10,098 yards, 90 touchdowns and 17 interceptions during his college career and also made plays with his legs with 18 rushing touchdowns.

He will have some weapons at his disposal with D.J. Chark, Marvin Jones and Laviska Shenault Jr. at wide receiver. That is a better group than could be reasonably expected for a team that won a single game just a year ago, so Lawrence will have an opportunity for early success.

To hear him tell it, he's ready to turn things around for the Jaguars.
