Simi Fehoko NFL Draft 2021: Scouting Report for Dallas Cowboys WR

HEIGHT: 6'3 7/8"

WEIGHT: 222

POSITIVES

— Very good size and athleticism.

— Smooth, fluid athlete. Tall but not a long strider. Gets on defenders' toes in a hurry on vertical routes. Good body control when adjusting to throws. Good acceleration to get to top speed and can take the top off on vertical routes or take a shorter throw the distance.

— Shows good eyes and awareness. Goes to the right guy for blocking in the run game and will compete to get to his assignment. Good overall strength and physicality, not afraid to try to run over a defender.

— Consistently able to track deep balls. Able to adjust while moving full speed and come down with throws over his shoulder.

— Comfortable aligning outside and in the slot. Best on intermediate and vertical routes.

— Good foot quickness that allows him to stay tight on his route breaks. Able to churn his feet over quickly despite his big frame that allows him to get in and out of breaks despite limited bend, and it allows him to consistently run shorter double-move routes from the slot position.

— Has special teams ability; blocked FG in 2020.

NEGATIVES

— Plays smaller than listed size when the ball is in the air. Does not consistently high-point throws above him. Can get stonewalled vs. press, but this is likely due to lack of technique.

— Raw route-runner and will need to continue refining route details. Will be loose with his tracks and needs to work on consistently re-establishing his path after his release.

— Stiff hips limit his ability to turn after receiving the ball. Won't make a lot of defenders miss and prefers to split them.

— Not a natural catcher of the football. Prefers to body catch throws coming at him and is inconsistent with throws away from his body.

— Will turn 24 as a rookie.

2020 STATISTICS

6 G, 37 rec., 574 yds., 15.5 avg., 3 TD

NOTES

— Went on a 2-year LDS mission after high school.

OVERALL

Simi Fehoko is a big and twitchy athlete who's a natural body mover with very good long speed and the ability to accelerate in a hurry. While he is a very good athlete, Fehoko will need to work on the detail of the WR position. He has the ability to play on the inside and outside with his size due to his foot quickness that allows him to win on shorter routes, but he will need refinement on his route-running tree and polish.

He will waver off his route path and needs to work on consistency and nuance to not ad-lib when things don't go as planned. Fehoko is a body catcher who doesn't have the most natural hands, especially when having to extend for the catch, which crops up on vertical throws where he doesn't show the ability to high-point throws. He's physical in the run game and goes to the right guy, which also helps his ability to play inside, where he will be asked to match up on bigger defenders.

Lacks hip flexibility and natural bend to sink or make defenders miss with the ball in his hands but has the speed to get north and split them. Fehoko's very good acceleration allows him to make defenders feel uncomfortable on vertical routes, and his big frame allows him to be a good target on seam-bender routes. Fehoko also brings true special teams ability due to his size, athleticism and toughness, and he has production already.

Overall, Fehoko is a project WR who is an excellent athlete and has a "football player" mindset with his toughness. He will be a Day 1 contributor on special teams and has an extremely intriguing set of traits that give him the upside to be a starting outside WR if developed correctly despite his older age.
