Daelin Hayes NFL Draft 2021: Scouting Report for Baltimore Ravens Edge

HEIGHT: 6'3 1/2"

WEIGHT: 253 lbs

POSITIVES

—Fluid athlete who is comfortable dropping into coverage.

—Will have much more value as a 3-4 outside linebacker than 4-3 because of his movement skills.

—Has solid bend for a player with his frame.

—Can get some knockback on bull rushes when transitioning speed to power.

NEGATIVES

—Get off is not special.

—Does not have heavy hands early in the down, even if he can transition speed into power.

—Reaches for blocks at times, which gets him in trouble.

—Missed a lot of games in his career, dating back to high school.

17 TKL, 6 TFL, 3 SK, 1 INT, 1 PBU, 1 FR, 2 FF

NOTES

—Missed portions of the 2018 and 2019 seasons because of shoulder injuries.

—Only started 13 games from 2016-2019, with 12 coming in 2017, in part because of injuries.

—Father played Division I football and mother ran track in college.

OVERALL

Daelin Hayes has a high upside but has only been a full-time starter for two seasons since 2013 because of various circumstances, including four shoulder injuries. Still, this is the type of player who was able to immediately crack the pass-rushing rotation as a true freshman at Notre Dame and was able to become a full-time starter as a true sophomore. He has not played a lot of football but has traits that should translate to success at 3-4 outside linebacker. Notre Dame thought enough of him to make him a team captain in 2020, when the Irish made the College Football Playoff.

GRADE: 7.43/10 (Round 4)
