CHRIS SUTTON: Jesse Lingard MUST put aside his love for Manchester United and make West Ham switch

Sign permanently for West Ham and play under a manager who has given you the platform to make the England squad for Euro 2020? Or return to Manchester United and, in all likelihood, revert to playing a bit-part role under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer?

I know which one I'd be pushing for, and which one Jesse Lingard should be pushing for. Stay at West Ham. That's the way to go.

Look, Lingard loves Manchester United. It's the club where he grew up and got his start in professional football. But no player should want to risk rotting away when he could be guaranteed game time elsewhere.

Lingard's first Premier League minutes of this season came on February 3. And yet, with eight goals, he has out-scored Liverpool's Roberto Firmino, Everton's Richarlison, Chelsea's Timo Werner, Aston Villa's Jack Grealish and Arsenal's Nicolas Pepe, to name only a few.

He has got more goals than United's Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial combined. His parent club made sure not to allow an option to buy inserted into the loan deal.

But Lingard can push to leave, if that's what he wants. And he should. At United, he would run the risk of being behind those 'bigger' names.

At West Ham, he could continue his progress. In front of Gareth Southgate at the London Stadium, Lingard is making himself impossible to leave out of the England squad for this summer.

If I'm being honest, I never expected that of him. But if he can continue at this rate, and help West Ham into the European places, then Lingard simply has to be called up by Southgate.
