WrestleMania 37, Night 1 advertised Drew McIntyre vs. Bobby Lashley for the WWE Championship, Bianca Belair vs. Sasha Banks for the SmackDown Women’s Championship, Brauns Strowman vs. Shane McMahon and Bad Bunny’s in-ring debut
WWE Raw garnered a 2021 -low of 1.701 million viewers up against stiff competition in the form of the NCAA men’s basketball championship. SmackDown’s overnight viewership was down with 2.080 million viewers.
All this time fans had to wait to be in the building for WrestleMania 37, and there was still another delay due to inclement weather.
The first major pop of the night was reserved for none other than...Vince McMahon.
I was just glad the word “hoax” didn’t come out of Vince McMahon’s mouth during his opening promo.
WWE ran it back, using the a similar cold open voiceover they did from WrestleMania 37 featuring Jack Sparrow.
During the weather delay, MVP said “the time for talking is done.” Clearly, MVP doesn’t know how weather delays work.
Fans certainly seemed to be behind both Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre in this match.
Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre absolutely worked their asses off in this match.
This match really earned the “This is Awesome” chants.
I was so happy to see Bobby Lashley retain the WWE Championship I didn’t even know what to do with myself.
The fact that Carmella and Billie Kay were eliminated proves they had no long-term plans for Reginald and Carmella, they just broke them up for no reason the way they do everybody else.
Mandy Rose tripped walking to the ring at WrestleMania, which is sure to become her gimmick.
Liv Morgan caught Mandy Rose in midair as she was running up the turnbuckle, saving her from what would have been a nasty fall.
Announcer Greg Hamilton got ahead of himself a bit, accidentally announcing that The Riott Squad had been eliminated.
Predictably, the crowd did not care about this random series of tag teams and The Riott Squad.
Seth Rollins has a new theme song and it too is worse than his original “Burn it Down” theme.
Only some of Seth Rollins’ fire went off during his entrance.
Seth Rollins hit a corkscrew frog splash that had to be seen to be believed.
Cesaro using the no-hands spin was so refreshing to watch in WWE.
Big E came out to give The New Day their introduction and
WWE was trying so hard to hide Omos, it made The New Day seem like heels in a two-on-one match.
Omos was simply unbelievable to watch in the ring. I don’t want to hear anything about how green he is, this is an actual star.
The outside interference came much earlier than I thought it would as Braun Strowman was attacked before this match even began.
Fans were really behind Braun Strowman in this match, which was a testament to how forgiving they were.
Jaxson Ryker and Elias served solely to defeat the purpose of this Steel Cage match.
Braun Strowman singlehandedly saved his career in this match and I loved to see it.
Strowman screamed, "Who’s stupid now?!!!" Then he got back into the ring when he had the match won.
Booker T was the guest commentator or this match, which makes all the sense in the world give Bad Bunny’s single “Booker T.”
One of those poor bunnies lost their ear during Miz and Morrison’s entrance.
The Miz and John Morrison’s hip-hop entrance suffered from some audio issues.
I was suspicious that at least one of those bunnies was Bad Bunny.
Bad Bunny’s WrestleMania entrance came with a semi truck that looked eerily similar to the truck Becky Lynch is rumored to come out in.
Bad Bunny looked fantastic in this match. Everybody putting over how great Bad Bunny looks needs to also be giving props to The Miz, even if it's against their IWC code of honor.
Bianca Belair was crying prior to this match, which was technically a feel-good moment but I’m sure she was crying that it took this long for WWE to finally feature black women in a WrestleMania main event.
Michael Cole said the term “black women” on commentary which has been a curse word in WWE for at least 50 years.
This match was an awesome showcase of Bianca Belair’s strength and boy did i live up to is main event billing.
Sasha Banks demanded to know what time it was and Michael Cole begrudgingly (and hilariously) said “It’s Boss Time.”
It certainly was awkward to hear the announce team talk about how the emotions of Belair and Banks were going to destroy them.
Sasha Banks took a helluva shot from Bianca Belair’s hair, and the large welt on her rib proved it.
The finishing sequence of this match was one of the more phenomenal things you’ll ever see in any match.
