Steph Curry continues to rewrite the record book with his 3-point shooting and his latest achievements are mind-boggling.
Curry hit six more 3-pointers during Golden State’s 126-114 loss to Minnesota on Thursday and finished the month of April with 96 threes, shattering James Harden’s previous record of 83 for a calendar month.
As my Forbes SportsMoney colleague Tommy Beer Tweeted, when Larry Bird led the NBA in 3-pointers during the 1986-87 season, he did so with 90 threes on 225 attempts. In April, Curry made 96 on 206 attempts.
Curry finished the game with 37 points and also now owns the record for most games of 30+ points in a month for a player 33 or older with 13. He passed Kobe Bryant on the list. He’s currently tied with Washington’s Bradley Beal for the NBA scoring lead at 31.3 points per game.
During the month of April, Curry made five or more 3-pointers in 11 of 15 games and 10 or more four times.
He has 6 games with 10+ threes this season. No other player has more than 5 in their career (Klay Thompson). For his career, he has 21 games of 10+ threes. The next closest player is Thompson with five.
The seven-time All-Star holds the record for the most triples in a season (402) and has made the second-most in league history (2,779). Ray Allen is the all-time leader with 2,973.
“Being aggressive obviously, but kind of letting the game come to you,” Curry told reporters earlier this month. “And for me that looks a certain type of way, but I’m having a blast out there just playing basketball.”
Said Warriors coach Steve Kerr earlier this month: I’ve seen Kobe Bryant early in his career had a stretch where he went nuts. Obviously Michael Jordan had some stretches where he just scored liked crazy. But nobody’s ever shot the ball like this in the history of the game.”
Still, the most important thing for Curry and the Warriors is making the postseason. After going 8-7 in April, Golden State is 31-32 with nine games remaining. They are three games ahead of Zion Williamson and the Pelicans for the No. 10 seed in the play-in tournament.
