The BIG3 basketball league left the door open for Jeremy Lin to continue his basketball career.

On Tuesday, Lin posted a statement on Twitter to say Sunday had been a self-imposed deadline for him to land with an NBA team. Since he remained unsigned, the 32-year-old seemed to indicate he was walking away from the Association.

BIG3 responded to the post and said it "would welcome [Lin] with open arms."

Lin last played in the NBA in 2018-19, averaging 9.6 points and 3.1 assists per game between spells with the Atlanta Hawks and Toronto Raptors.

After going overseas to play with the Beijing Ducks in the Chinese Basketball Association, he returned stateside and began working out with the Santa Cruz Warriors in the NBA G League. Across nine games, he averaged 19.8 points and shot 42.6 percent from beyond the arc.

Lin might view a move to BIG3 as a step down, but it could be a route back to the NBA.

Joe Johnson parlayed his BIG3 run into a shot at making the Detroit Pistons roster ahead of the 2019-20 season. While Johnson didn't make the cut, he received the opportunity Lin clearly covets.

The 2021 BIG3 season tips off July 10 and runs through Sept. 4. That shouldn't intersect with the start of the NBA's 2021-22 campaign.

The offseason isn't even officially underway, with the second night of play-in games on the horizon. Especially since NBA teams will have more time to weigh all of their options in free agency—a luxury they didn't have with the relatively quick turnaround between 2019-20 and 2020-21—Lin's dream of a comeback may not be dead.
