David Letterman’s longtime music man Paul Shaffer lists gated New York home for $2.75M

Canada-born Paul Shaffer — David Letterman’s longtime musical director who heads the World’s Most Dangerous Band — and his wife, Cathy, are listing their gated Bedford, NY, home on a sprawling 8 acres for $2.75 million.

The posh Westchester County town is home to celebs from Martha Stewart to Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively. The Shaffers have owned their property, at 23 Cedar Hill Road, for 33 years after buying it for $680,000 in 1991.

The news first appeared on Realtor.com.

“The house has been so good to us. We raised our kids here. Now they’re gone, we’re empty nesters, and we have to chase them out west,” Shaffer told Gimme Shelter this week, adding that they still own a place on the Upper West Side. That’s the neighborhood Shaffer settled in when he moved to New York in 1974 — and where he still loves dining at the bustling Cafe Fiorello, which opened the same year, across from Lincoln Center.

(In Bedford, meanwhile, he enjoys the Bedford Playhouse, home to the Bedford Cafe, and he likes it all so much that he gave the establishment the Baldwin grand piano that he played on television.)

By 1975, fellow Canadian expat Lorne Michaels had hired Shaffer for the original “Saturday Night Live” to play piano in the band and to compose music. Shaffer is currently traveling to perform with different symphonies, sharing his renditions of his favorite pop, R&B and jazz tunes. He tells Gimme that he is also working on an avant-garde jazz album.

His four-bedroom, 4½-bath Colonial is 5,000 square feet. Built in 1968, it was renovated in 2015.

The estate features mature trees, a saltwater pool and a tennis/basketball court.

Inside, there’s a great room with a vaulted ceiling and window walls, a library with ladder-accessed shelving — and an eat-in chef’s kitchen with two ovens, a fireplace and a large window that frames the backyard.

Listing images also show a dash of rustic charm, especially with the floor-to-ceiling brick fireplace that anchors that great room.

There’s also a studio-slash-home office and a three-car garage.

The listing broker is Frances M. Torres of Houlihan Lawrence Bedford.
