Super Bowl LVII: Empire State Building turns into a 'virtual scoreboard'

New York's Empire State Building kept up with the thrilling Super Bowl LVII by turning color whenever there was a touchdown.

The famous landmark showed its split loyalties like Travis and Jason Kelce's mom Donna before the game started.

The Empire State Building was half red and gold for the Kansas City Chiefs and half green and white for the Philadelphia Eagles to support both teams in the NFL finale in Arizona. The Chiefs went on to win 38-35 in a dramatic game.

Once the heavily-anticipated clash at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale had started the skyscraper acted as a 'virtual scoreboard'.

As soon as Jalen Hurts scored the first touchdown of the game the building switched to green and white sparkles for the Eagles.

Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce responded shortly after in the first quarter as he found the end zone, prompting the Empire State Building to switch to red and gold sparkles.

The different colors comes after the iconic building turned green and white when Philadelphia won the NFC title.

After the Eagles trounced the San Francisco 49ers 31-7, the Twitter account for the Empire State Building shared a photo of the iconic New York landmark lit up in Philadelphia's colors.

The bizarre move to honor one of city's most bitter rivals infuriated many New Yorkers on social media.

Many New York sports fans were left irate, particularly with the move coming just a week after the Eagles defeated their NFC East rivals in the NFC Divisional round as Philly stomped out the New York Giants 38-7.

In the divisional round, the Giants were outclassed by Philadelphia - getting just over 225 yards of total offense while allowing 416 total yards and five touchdowns.

This season, Philadelphia defeated the Giants in all three of their contests - winning 48-22 in Week 14 and again in Week 18 by a 22-16 score.

And with the wound still fresh, many fans and athletes took to social media to blast the move.

'What on Earth … Let me close these blinds,' Giants safety Julian Love tweeted Sunday.

Giants legend Carl Banks summed up the thoughts of many: 'What the actual F#*k??

'They would NEVER Light a building for a NY sports team! @NYCMayor did someone lose a bet?'

New York Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson simply tweeted, 'Lol what' when the image was revealed.

Longtime ESPN host and New York Jets fan Mike Greenberg slyly wrote, 'I'm sure this will be received really well.'

ESPN NFL analyst Mina Kimes asked, 'Did y'all lose a bet?' while ESPN baseball analyst Joon Lee shared a meme from Star Wars saying this was 'treason'.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul also addressed the situation Monday morning following the outcry.

'To be clear, New York State has no control over how @EmpireStateBldg lights its colors,' she tweeted.

The Empire State Building finished Sunday night in red and gold after the Chiefs came out on top.
