Mets' Khalil Lee Being Investigated by MLB Following Allegations of Assault

Major League Baseball has opened an investigation into assault allegations against New York Mets outfielder Khalil Lee, per SNY's Andy Martino.

Per Anne Hayes of Syracuse.com, Lee's ex-girlfriend, Keriwyn Hill, filed a federal lawsuit against him on Wednesday alleging he "assaulted her by pulling her hair and choking her during an argument" on May 7, 2022.

Hayes noted Lee was named in a warrant issued by Syracuse police for criminal obstruction of breath.

According to a timeline of events in the lawsuit included in Hayes' report, Lee and Hill broke up in September 2021 and he asked her to fly to Syracuse to stay in his apartment in May.

"On May 6, Lee told Hill that he might want to rekindle the relationship, according to court documents," Hayes wrote. "Later that night, she saw on his phone an intimate text conversation with what appeared to be another woman, Hill alleges. That led to an argument around midnight. Lee kicked her in the thigh causing her to fall down, her lawsuit claims. She began crying and Lee called her dramatic, it claims. After Lee called her ugly, Hill slapped Lee in the face and walked away, she says. Lee then grabbed Hill's box braids and 'yanked her backward' causing her to hit the kitchen island, she alleges. Hill felt Lee's hand around her neck but could not breathe or speak to tell him to let her go, she claims. After around 10 to 15 seconds, Lee let go and pushed Hill away from him."

Per Hayes, Hill said "the assault left multiple bruises and marks on her body." The arrest warrant for Lee was signed by a judge on Aug. 10, 2022, and Hill said in the lawsuit that MLB counsel was made aware of the charge.

The Mets issued a statement about the allegations against Lee:

Lee was a third-round pick by the Kansas City Royals in the 2016 MLB draft. He was traded to the Mets in February 2021 as part of a three-team deal with the Boston Red Sox headlined by Andrew Benintendi going to Kansas City.

He has spent most of the past two seasons in the minors, but has appeared in 13 games for the Mets since 2021. The 24-year-old is currently on their 40-man roster.
