Hugh Jackman has a reputation for being the nicest guy in Hollywood.

And the hunky 54-year-old proved once again why he's a fan favourite when he encountered New York's famous 'Radioman' on Monday.

The superstar was seen sharing a laugh on a Manhattan street with the former homeless-man-turned-actor, whose real name is Craig Castaldo.

Castaldo, 71, appeared to be showing off some dance moves in tribute to Australia's famed song and dance man.

The pair had some fun on the street as Jackman made his way inside the Ed Sullivan theatre on Broadway to record his appearance on The Late Show with Steve Colbert.

Dressed for New York's chilly winter weather, the Wolverine star looked smart in a  pair of snug grey pleated trousers, purple top and blue zip-up long coat, which he matched with a pair of black lace-up runners.

A familiar figure on New York streets, bearded Castaldo wore jeans, a large puffy jacket, sneakers and a red baseball cap.

Castaldo is known for his photo ops with known celebrities.

A formerly homeless man in New York City, he's now made over 100 cameo appearances in films and TV shows.

He is called Radioman because he usually has a radio around his neck.

He has appeared in 30 Rock, The Departed, The Bourne Trilogy, Shutter Island, Just My Luck, Romance & Cigarettes, Elf, Two Weeks Notice, Glitter, Keeping the Faith, Godzilla, Ransom and Big Daddy.

It comes after Jackman's run as star of the Broadway smash The Music Man finished up on January 15.

According to Variety, the hit revival of the 1957 stage classic played 374 regular and 46 preview performances before the curtain fell for the last time, this week.

Jackman was nominated for a Tony Award for his critically-acclaimed lead role in the smash show.

The Tony Awards are considered Broadway's most prestigious prize - the American theatre's version of the Oscars.
