Life goes on, even in a nation still reeling from a deluge of death. It’s just over three weeks since two earthquakes shattered everything that was normal in the south of Turkey and the north of Syria, with more than 45,000 lives lost, and counting.
In such a time, sport can seem a frivolous thing to be concerned about, but it can also serve as a welcome distraction and, for some in Turkey, that’s exactly what this week’s European Indoor Championships are.
