Auburn Football Makes Awkward Blunder On Social Media In Promotion Of Its Biggest Rival

Auburn University is not having the college football season it might’ve hoped. Not only are the Tigers at risk of missing a bowl game if they don’t rattle off a few upset wins over higher-ranked SEC programs, they made an awkward blunder on X, formerly known as Twitter, in promotion of their biggest rival.

It was a social media manager’s biggest nightmare!!

For those who aren’t familiar, the staffers in charge of social media accounts for a specific brand or entity often keep all of their different accounts logged in on the same device. Rarely in collegiate athletics does said person, usually a Sports Information Director, have a second phone for professional purposes. That also applies to a large number of local businesses or smaller corporate entities.

As a result, the staffer is forced to toggle back and forth between multiple accounts— including his or her own. The constant shuffle can get confusing. It is very easy to forget what account is actively logged in while scrolling through the depths of online discourse.

That is what seemed to happen on Wednesday afternoon. Auburn accidentally reposted a video that was originally posted to an account that focuses on the university’s biggest and most hated rival, Alabama.

Former Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett lost a bet to Los Angeles Rams teammate Miller Forristall. Forristall played for Alabama so Bennett had to wear a Crimson Tide hat after Saturday’s on-field result.
